In many parts of Abim District, access to healthcare remains a challenge due to long distances to medical facilities and a shortage of trained health professionals. STITCH Uganda is working to bridge this gap by establishing Community Health Centers in key locations across the district.
What We Do:
- Construct and equip healthcare centers in remote areas.
- Provide essential medical services, including maternal and child healthcare, immunization, and treatment for common illnesses.
- Train and deploy community health workers (CHWs) to provide first-line care and health education.
- Ensure availability of essential medicines and diagnostic services.
Impact:
- Reduced maternal and infant mortality rates.
- Increased immunization coverage.
- Faster response to medical emergencies.
- Improved access to HIV/AIDS and TB treatment.
2. Training & Capacity Building for Health Workers
Empowering Healthcare Providers for Better Service Delivery
A strong health system depends on skilled professionals who can deliver high-quality care. STITCH Uganda invests in training and capacity-building programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of community health workers, midwives, nurses, and clinical officers.
What We Do:
- Conduct in-service training for healthcare workers on updated medical procedures and treatment protocols.
- Offer specialized training in maternal health, HIV/AIDS management, and emergency response.
- Provide continuing medical education (CME) sessions for health workers.
- Partner with government agencies and medical institutions to ensure certification and compliance with national health standards.

3. Health Promotion & Education

Many health challenges in Uganda stem from lack of awareness and misconceptions about diseases, nutrition, and hygiene. STITCH Uganda conducts health education and promotion campaigns to encourage healthier lifestyles and prevent diseases.
What We Do:
- Organize community sensitization programs on disease prevention, hygiene, and nutrition.
- Develop radio talk shows, flyers, and posters to disseminate health information.
- Train local peer educators to spread awareness within their communities.
- Collaborate with schools to integrate health education into curriculums.

4. Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods

Poverty is one of the root causes of poor health in rural communities. To tackle this, STITCH Uganda supports economic empowerment initiatives that help individuals and families generate income and achieve financial stability.
What We Do:
- Train community members in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and vocational skills.
- Provide startup grants and microloans to small business owners.
- Facilitate market linkages for farmers and artisans.
- Promote women and youth-led enterprises.

- Increased household income and reduced dependency on external aid.

5. Climate Action & Sustainability

- Promote climate-smart agriculture, including drought-resistant crops and organic farming techniques.
- Conduct tree planting campaigns to combat deforestation and soil erosion.

6. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Lack of clean water and poor sanitation contribute to diseases such as cholera and dysentery. STITCH Uganda is committed to improving access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities in schools, healthcare centers, and households.
What We Do:
- Construct and rehabilitate boreholes, wells, and rainwater harvesting systems.
- Install latrines and handwashing stations in schools and public places.
- Train communities on proper sanitation practices.
- Distribute water purification tablets and filters to vulnerable households.

7. Education & Digital Learning
